We Have a Stage 5 Clinger

Erin and I were chatting about it the other day and we have something in common (something else) - we both have clingers on our hands.  Leo has been super clingy lately.  When we put him on the floor, he crawls over to us immediately and smacks our shoes and our shins until we pick him up.  Then if we put him down, he'll whimper until we pick him up again.

Last night I was vacuuming (gasp!) and Leo would NOT let me put him down.  So this is how I vacuumed his room.  He watched every single movement as the vacuum went back and forth and back and forth.  Soon he was in a trance and was ready for bed - with a nice, clean rug.

This morning, Leo woke up early so we were playing in bed - babbling and rolling around and crawling and playing with toys.  I went to shower and when I came out, this is what I found:

And this is just a bonus picture for your enjoyment.  Leo wearing a cozy sweatsuit, trying his best to jump off of his dresser/changing table:

Leo's Croup

Don't worry, everything is okay.  Thursday night as Brad and I were just falling asleep, we heard Leo on the monitor start to cough violently and it sounded like he was gasping to breath and.  Now we know that this "barking like a seal" is a telltale indicator.  We swooped him out of his crib, threw him in his car seat, put on pants, and rushed to the Emergency Room.  Luckily we live about 5 blocks from the nearest hospital.  We sprinted in the entrance and the nurse at the front desk said "Hi.  Oh, yeah, he has croup".  We immediately knew what it was and wasn't concerned, so that really calmed us down.

As we got into our hospital room, the nurses sloooowly asked us what was wrong, asked how loooooong it had been going on, and just huuuung out.  Their lack of urgency let me and Brad know that Leo is okay, he's not struggling for breath, and what he has is totally normal and not cause for alarm.  I asked them a few times, and they assured me a few times, that his oxygen level is 100% and there is no cause for concern.  That doesn't mean it wasn't scary.

We quickly learned that if we were calm, Leo was calm, and if he was calm, his cough would calm down.  So Brad held Leo, calmed him down, and snuggled while the nurses did their thing.

They gave Leo a mist to breath in and a steroid which we continued for the next few days.  There wasn't much poking or prodding which was nice - they just watched Leo for a bit to make sure everything was okay.

I stayed home with Leo on Friday and we went to the pediatrician first thing in the morning to check in, and they said all is good.  So I had a bonus day with Leo while Brad worked from home!  Here is our amazing baby on Friday:

And on Saturday (GAME DAY!) - note his Wisconsin polo and his blue and white game day bibs (overalls), then his Penn State sweatshirt and Bucky pillow:

Leo's First Halloween

Happy Halloween from Commander Leo!  Can you tell he was excited to get out there and start collecting candy?

Leo Spaceman (this was totally unintentional but for those 30 Rock fans, watch the first 40 seconds: Dr. Leo Spaceman) and his crew hit the town and went to visit the neighbors around us and say Happy Halloween!  He got a lot of adoring looks and complements.  Then we went home to warm up and hand out candy to the other kids who came by.  We didn't have a ton of trick or treaters but we saw some very cute and creative costumes!

And a special thank you to Grammy who sent Leo Paw Patrol Halloween decals that we put on his bedroom window!  He loves to be held up so he can touch them and squish them.  Don't worry, they're not too scary.

Happy first Halloween!

And how could we forget, Leo's costume he wore to school - ROLL TIDE!:
