A couple of weekends ago, we took our fist family trip to the zoo! Alissa, Merle, Lucy and Ben gave us the awesome gift of a year membership and we were so excited to start our visits!
As soon as we got there, Brad really wanted to go to the penguin feeding so we took off a-walking. Except we walked left instead of right (didn't have a map) and ended up walking 80% around the loop that is the zoo until we made it by the skin of our teeth.
At first Leo was a little skeptical of the penguins - he didn't want to get too close and wanted to sit on my lap (obviously). Were they fish? Were they birds? He liked to watch them swim under water (definitely fish), and he ended up loving it! ...and so did Brad.
Next up was visiting the polar bear! He was outside having a fishy snack and Leo liked to look at him but liked even more sitting on the little step connecting the window to the ground. He does this everywhere - he sits on the lip of our shower, the ledge on the door of the porch - any little ledge between about 3-6" high, Leo will sit on it.
Elephants! Who doesn't love elephants? Certainly this kid does - he has them all over his room and he has an elephant that sits on his bookshelf wearing his fedora!
We wanted to commemorate this momentous occasion by getting him a stuffed animal! We let him choose which one he wanted (except we wouldn't let him have a dinosaur - why do they even have a dinosaur exhibit at the zoo?). We was more interested in playing with the sunglasses display, so we picked out this adorable penguin chick for him! He threw him on the ground 4 times so I got to carry him out of the zoo!
We all loved the zoo and can't wait to go back soon!
I'll bet he was the cutest "animal" at the zoo!
