A Great Day for a Snow Walk

Last week was cold.  Like really cold.  But it was really getting to me, being inside all day every day.  So the sun came out, we grabbed our "marshmallow coats", put on our warm snow gear, and we went to Bird Park which is about a mile from us.  

Gavi has been so snow-hesitant.  In fact, until this point she has refused to stand in it, won't play in it, and won't touch it.  But miraculously, she forgot all about her snowphobia and stomped right through it!  At first she and I held hands (because the snow was pretty deep for her to walk in by herself), but then she gained confidence and was walking on her own in no time.  

But, Leo was hesitant and didn't want to "hike" (aka walk).  You can tell by just looking over Gavi's shoulder.  Yep, that's Leo, in protest:

I tried to take a nice picture of the three of us on our hike.  These are the outcomes:

Whatever.

Then the kids were making snow patties that they kept handing me so we could bring them back to Dad.  

They were playing - independently (aka without me, but with each other) for like 6 minutes.  I think that's  a record.

Well we had hiked for about 1/4 mile and the kids were pooped and wanted a snack (even though they literally had one in the car not 20 minutes earlier) so we turned around and headed back.  The tiny hill we had just trudged up was a perfect slide, so they both rolled (Leo) and scooted (Gavi) down the tiny hill.  Fun was had by all!

Leo stopped to hang out in the "hot tub" (fire pit) which was for kids only:

Again, I tried to get a cute picture.  There should be an app where you have a picture and can choose you childrens' faces from different pictures so they are both smiling and/or looking at the camera at the same time.  I'd totally buy that if there was one.

Then Leo had to pee.  So he took off his coat, his mittens, his fleece, his snow bibs and his pants to pee.  But wait, he couldn't pee where we were.  He waddled over to this grate so he could pee into it.  Because boys.

Our whole outing was probably about an hour (then we picked up Chipotle on the way home!) but it was so nice to get out of the house and have a change of scenery.  I always forget that Bird Park is so close to us but it feels like a totally different place.  Bird Park for the win!
